"A German watchdog, Food Watch, tested the chocolate bars for something called mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) – a byproduct of the oil refining process – and found high levels of it in products from Ferrero, Lindt and Rübezhal, which sells in Aldi.
‘MOAH…can cause cancer and damage the human genome,’
(...)
They also claim that they told the producers concerned about the test results before they published them and called for a public recall – which was refused.
‘The manufacturer is guilty of gross negligence,’ says John Hegg from Food Watch.
‘Instead of clearing the dangerous candy from the shelves and warning consumers, they (haven’t).’
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), MOAHs are ‘likely’ to be ‘carcinogenic and mutagenic’.

A statement from Ferrero said that traces of mineral oil ‘exist nearly everywhere in the environment’ and could have been transferred into the food via recycled packaging, printing inks or transportation.
‘At Ferrero, together with all our supply chain partners, we are working on technical solutions to minimise these omnipresent substances as much as possible and to avoid transfer and migration to food’, the statement continued."
