https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/924382/cancer-symptoms-prostate-signs-causes

Citando:
"[Factors] include:

Age - risk rises as you get older and most cases are diagnosed in men over 50 years of age.

Ethnic group – prostate cancer is more common among men of African-Caribbean and African descent than in men of Asian descent.

Family history – having a brother or father who developed prostate cancer under the age of 60 seems to increase the risk of you developing it. Research also shows that having a close female relative who developed breast cancer may also increase your risk of developing prostate cancer.

Obesity – recent research suggests that there may be a link between obesity and prostate cancer.

Exercise – men who regularly exercise have also been found to be at lower risk of developing prostate cancer.

Diet – research is ongoing into the links between diet and prostate cancer. There is evidence that a diet high in calcium is linked to an increased risk of developing prostate cancer."

Exercício total para idosos?

https://health.spectator.co.uk/for-older-men-total-volume-of-exercise-matters-more-than-consistency/

Citando:
"Exercising for just a few minutes a day is linked to a lower risk of death in older men, according to new research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

The study suggests that the total volume of exercise matters. Current exercise guidelines recommend accumulating at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous physical activity in bouts lasting longer than ten minutes. But such a pattern is not always easy for older adults to achieve, say the researchers.

This lower level of intensity is also likely to be a better fit for older men, say the researchers.

To find out if other patterns of activity might still contribute to lowering the risk of death, the researchers drew on data from the British Regional Heart Study."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long do your smoothies last and how do you store them?

I always make four days worth of smoothies in one hit. I store them in the fridge in shakers. As I'm about to drink I add my protein powder give it a good shake and  then enjoy.

Do you store your meals in the fridge or freezer?

I keep five days worth of meals in the fridge and freeze the rest down.

How long do meal preps take you?

Two to three hours tops. I have numerous things on the go & am a bit of an advocate for multitasking in the kitchen. I always have a sink full of hot soapy water and  wash dishes as I use them.

Do you eat the same thing everyday?

Generally my breakfasts, lunches and snacks are the same for the week but dinners are different each night as we eat as a family.

For any half used vegetables, Ms Harbinson said she would incorporate the leftovers into another batch of meal planning later in the week."

https://www.webmd.boots.com/asthma/news/20180216/cleaning-lung-damage

Citando:
"A new European study has found women who work as cleaners or who regularly clean the family home using cleaning sprays or other products, experience a greater decline in lung function over time than women who do not clean.

The researchers, from the University of Bergen in Norway, say the accelerated lung function decline is comparable to smoking 20 cigarettes a day over 10 to 20 years.

Study

The University of Bergen researchers analysed data from 6,235 participants in the European Community Respiratory Health Survey, of which 53% were women.

They were followed for more than 20 years."

Asparagina ajuda a propagar cancro?

https://www.rtp.pt/noticias/mundo/descoberto-aminoacido-nos-espargos-que-propaga-o-cancro-da-mama_n1057034

Citando:

Citando:

http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20180126-the-100-most-nutritious-foods

Citando:
"Imagine the ideal food. One that contains all the nutrients necessary to meet, but not exceed, our daily nutrient demands. If such a food existed, consuming it, without eating any other, would provide the optimal nutritional balance for our body.

Such a food does not exist. But we can do the next best thing.

The key is to eat a balance of highly nutritional foods, that when consumed together, do not contain too much of any one nutrient, to avoid exceeding daily recommended amounts.

Scientists studied more than 1,000 foods, assigning each a nutritional score. The higher the score, the more likely each food would meet, but not exceed your daily nutritional needs, when eaten in combination with others.

Calculated and ranked by scientists, these are the 100 most nutritious foods"

Interação entre remédios e ervas medicinais?

https://www.nhs.uk/news/medication/review-highlights-danger-mixing-herbal-remedies-prescription-drugs/

Citando:
"Herbal remedies can affect the way drugs act on the body, either blocking their action or increasing their potency. Problems reported in the review included liver and kidney damage, bleeding, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, mental health problems, seizures and muscle pain.

Many combinations of drugs and herbal remedies caused interactions, but the most commonly mentioned drugs were warfarin and statins.

The review underlines the importance of telling your doctor that you're taking herbal remedies if you're prescribed a drug – just because a substance is described as a herb, that doesn't mean it's harmless or safe for everyone to use.(...)

Herbal remedies included ginkgo biloba, St John's wort, ginseng, sage, flaxseed, cranberry, goji juice, green tea, chamomile and turmeric."

(...)

"

Conclusion

Many people believe herbal remedies are safe, so they think they don't need to inform their doctor that they're taking them. However, all medicines, herbal or conventional, can have side effects.

Herbal medicines are also known to affect how conventional drugs work. For example, St John's wort can be dangerous if taken with antidepressants and can stop the contraceptive pill from working.

This study shows that even commonly used herbs and spices, such as green tea and turmeric, can cause problems when combined with certain medicines. That's why, if you're taking conventional medicines, it's crucial to tell your doctor if you're taking or planning to take herbal medicines."

Ácido fólico ou não ácido fólico?

Para todos ainda por cima, no fermento:
https://www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/case-folic-acid-be-added-flour-overwhelming-argues-review/

A falta de indicação do financiamento do estudo (e de declarações de interesse) é preocupante quando se propõem a alterar o que todos vamos comer?

Citando:
"What is the case for mandatory folic acid fortification?

As of October 2017, 81 countries had introduced mandatory fortification of flour. This includes the US, Canada and Australia, but so far no countries in the EU. The authors suggest this is because some expert committees undervalue the benefits of folic acid. The European Commission Scientific Committee on Food reportedly consider low folate as a "risk factor" rather than an "important cause" of neural tube defects.

There is also a widely held view that public health involves encouraging personal choice – such as through taking supplements – rather than making choices for everyone.

The authors say that fortification would not give full protection but would be "a population safety net" for women who haven't taken supplements before pregnancy. They give examples of legislation – such as smoking bans and car seatbelts – to reduce harm even if they impinge on personal freedom.

They mention how flour is already fortified with iron, calcium and other B vitamins like thiamine and niacin. They also say how folic acid would have wider benefits than just preventing neural tube defects, including reducing anaemia due to folate deficiency in older adults.(...)"

(...)

"The authors present a compelling case for folic acid fortification in flour to prevent neural tube defects.

The main drawback of this review is the lack of information on the research methods. It cannot therefore be considered to be a systematic review (...). As such this review has to be considered largely the interpretation and opinion of the authors."
