Gene dos ruivos e cancro da pele

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2016/07July/Pages/Secret-ginger-gene-may-increase-skin-cancer-risk-for-millions.aspx

Citando:
"Research suggests that carrying just one copy of a variant of the MC1R gene (having two copies causes red hair) increases skin cancer risk, even for people without red hair.
The variant is called an R allele, people who have two R allele variants tend to have ginger hair, pale skin, freckles and burn easily in the sun. These people are known to be at higher risk of skin cancer; both non-melanoma and melanoma."

Pormenor da canela chinesa conter mais quantidade de um produto tóxico para o fígado:
""Although both types of cinnamon are metabolized into sodium benzoate, we have seen that Ceylon cinnamon is much more pure than Chinese cinnamon, as the latter contains coumarin, a hepatotoxic (liver damaging) molecule," Pahan said."

Chocolates Kinder recolhidos

Citando:
"A German watchdog, Food Watch, tested the chocolate bars for something called mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) – a byproduct of the oil refining process – and found high levels of it in products from Ferrero, Lindt and Rübezhal, which sells in Aldi.
‘MOAH…can cause cancer and damage the human genome,’
(...)
They also claim that they told the producers concerned about the test results before they published them and called for a public recall – which was refused.
‘The manufacturer is guilty of gross negligence,’ says John Hegg from Food Watch.
‘Instead of clearing the dangerous candy from the shelves and warning consumers, they (haven’t).’
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), MOAHs are ‘likely’ to be ‘carcinogenic and mutagenic’.
(...)

A statement from Ferrero said that traces of mineral oil ‘exist nearly everywhere in the environment’ and could have been transferred into the food via recycled packaging, printing inks or transportation.
‘At Ferrero, together with all our supply chain partners, we are working on technical solutions to minimise these omnipresent substances as much as possible and to avoid transfer and migration to food’, the statement continued."

"Maior certeza sobre a relação zika, BVDV e microcefalia somente será possível quando não apenas traços, mas o vírus inteiro for encontrado em amostras analisadas. "Além disso, é preciso verificar não apenas a presença do vírus, mas o seu papel no ataque das células do embrião infectado", afirmou um integrante da equipe."

Pesticidas, plásticos e outras substâncias químicas que afectam crianças (desde a gravidez)

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/toxic-chemicals-poison-warning-food-plastic-air-study-a7114226.html

Citando:
"(...) pregnant women had been found to be contaminated with dozens of potentially harmful substances such as organophosphate pesticides, PBDE flame retardants and phthalates found in plastic. "
(...)
“When the [US] federal government banned some uses of OP [organo-phosphate] pesticides, manufacturers responded by expanding the use of neonicotinoid and pyrethroid pesticides,” the paper said.
“Evidence is emerging that these widely used classes of pesticides pose a threat to the developing brain.
“When the US government reached a voluntary agreement with flame retardant manufacturers to stop making PBDEs, the manufacturers substituted other halogenated and organophosphate flame retardant chemicals.
“Many of these replacement flame retardants are similar in structure to other neurotoxic chemicals but have not undergone adequate assessment of their effects on developing brains.
“When the federal government banned some phthalates in children’s products, the chemical industry responded by replacing the banned chemicals with structurally similar new phthalates. These replacements are now under investigation for disrupting the endocrine system.”
