Sobre o chá verde: super-alimento ou balela?

http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/superfoods/Pages/is-green-tea-a-superfood.aspx

PS.

White blood cells called neutrophils and myeloid cells rush to the site of the bite, but the researchers show that instead of helping, these cells in fact get infected and inadvertently replicate the virus."

"Potential treatment
These findings suggest that anti-inflammatory drugs and creams could be an interesting therapeutic option to limit the spread of the virus. They could potentially target the inflammation before the immune cells rush to the site of the bite and become infected by the virus. This could an important step in fighting viral diseases (...)"

"The need to tackle human prescribing is still widely considered to be the highest priority in the drive to safeguard our antibiotics, but global attention is increasingly turning to the overuse of antibiotics in farming.
The discovery in late 2015 of the mcr-1 gene, which confers resistance to the “last-resort” antibiotic colistin, catapulted veterinary antibiotic use into the headlines worldwide. First found in China, the gene was subsequently discovered in at least 19 countries worldwide.

These findings, strongly linked to farm use of colistin, triggered widespread concern. Subsequently, 50 medics and scientists across Europe and the US called on MEPs to support a ban on routine preventative mass-medication of groups of healthy animals."

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2016/06June/Pages/Almost-half-of-all-UK-adults-may-be-living-with-chronic-pain.aspx

More adults aged 75 or over (62%) experienced pain than those aged 18 to 25 (14.3%).
There are limitations to this study that affect the reliability, the main one being that this type of review can only be as good as the included studies. In this case, there weren't many good-quality studies and there was a lot of variation in their findings."

Bubbly drink trial 'to boost cancer therapy' - BBC News

Bubbly drink trial 'to boost cancer therapy' - BBC News

Citando:

"One reason thought to behind this is that cancers grow rapidly and their blood supply fails to keep up - leaving tumours with torturous, poorly-formed blood vessels that don't deliver oxygen-rich blood as well.

Prof Eleanor Stride, from Oxford University, says the lack of oxygen makes cancer cells "go into survival mode" making them more hardy and therefore less responsive to radiotherapy and drugs.

This is a particular problem for hard-to-treat cancers such as tumours of the pancreas, she says.

The team has already found that injecting oxygen in mice with cancer and then giving them chemotherapy leads to more successful treatments.

They recently carried out a small-scale trial of an oxygen-rich drink in mice.

The next stage is to repeat the mice experiments in much larger numbers, before human trials are considered.

But Prof Stride says: "I wouldn't suggest people rush out to buy any drinks claiming to be rich in oxygen."

Should You Get Tested for the Breast Cancer Genes? - Scientific American

"The mostly common involved and most familiar breast cancer genes are the BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 genes. This sort of gene testing can be performed on blood, saliva, or even cheek swabbing.  The challenge? Hundreds of genes involving these two mutations have been discovered. Therefore, obtaining a complete test for all involved possibilities can cost up to 4,000 dollars. If patients meet certain criteria, however, insurance may cover up to 90% of the testing cost. What may be less costly and more simple, however, is if you already have an identified gene in another relative, in which testing can be more targeted and therefore much less costly."

A autorização expira em Junho e em PT o uso já foi proibido.
