http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/multivitamins-expensive-urine-waste-of-money-vitamins-australian-medical-association-chief-michael-a7578961.html

Números da indústria (citando):
"Nearly half of adults in the UK take multivitamins, with 46 per cent saying they use them daily or occasionally, according to Mintel.
In Australia, the vitamin pill market has doubled over the last decade and seven out of every ten people take some form of supplement, reported ABC.
Industry bodies have said the tablets are useful because many people have poor diets (...)"
Citando:
"“Many of these products have 50 or more ingredients,” he said. “It really is crazy stuff."
"If that’s what you want to do, and you want to give some profits to the companies that produce those products, well good on you. That’s not what I want to do.”"

Estar o dia todo sentado acelera o envelhecimento (afecta ADN)

Artigo com métricas quantitativas interessantes relativas aos telómeros (e crítico negativamente acerca da utilidade do estudo sobre estar sentado acelerar o envelhecimento do ADN):
http://www.nhs.uk/news/2017/01January/Pages/Sitting-down-all-day-may-accelerate-DNA-ageing.aspx

Citando:
"Telomeres are measured in the small sections of nucleic acids that make up DNA, known as base pairs.
Among women in the study who did less than about 40 minutes of physical activity a day, those who sat longest had shorter telomeres by an average 170 base pairs.
The researchers say telomeres shorten at a rate of 21 base pairs a year – using a rough "back of a fag packet" calculation, 170 equals about eight years.
Sitting time did not seem linked to telomere length for women who did at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day."

Vegans e o Veganuary

http://m.independent.ie/regionals/corkman/lifestyle/my-new-year-resolution-to-be-vegan-by-january-35342161.html

Citando:
"While the world's human population has doubled since the 1960s, world meat production has quadrupled. There were nearly five times as many tonnes of pig produced in 2013 compared to 1961, while world chicken production has increased by nearly 13 times. This trend is continuing: it's predicted that by 2050 world meat production will have almost doubled again, as the Western taste for meat, eggs and dairy products grows in developing countries. This increased production will continue to contribute to global warming, pollution, deforestation, land degradation, water scarcity and species extinction."
(...)
"For those who aren't clear, the definition of a vegan is someone who does not eat or use animal products in any form. That means sticking to a plant-based diet, avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey, as well as products like leather and anything that's been tested on animals."
(...)
"vegetarians (people who avoid meat, but eat dairy products and eggs)"

Publicidade dos anos 80 e aumento do cancro do pulmão

http://www.heraldscotland.com/News/14499022.Lung_cancer_rates_among_women_on_rise_due_to_80s_adverts/

Citando:
"Gregor McNie, Cancer Research UK’s senior public affairs manager in Scotland, said this reflected trends in the popularity of smoking. He said: “Male smoking peaked in the 1970s and started declining at that point. For women it was more in the 1980s.

“Also tobacco marketing focused more on women in the 1980s, targeting housewives.
“The lung cancer rates are a decade behind for women.”
If the figures are adjusted for age, incidence of cancer in general dropped by 3% for men but increased by 6% for women over the decade to 2014. "

As estatísticas do cancro

http://www.abola.pt/mundos/ver.aspx?id=595856 (PT)

E os números do Reino Unido:
